Abstract
1,138,655. Seismic prospecting. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. 6 Jan., 1967 [14 Feb., 1966], No. 6390/66. Heading H4D. Acoustic coupling between an explosive charge and the ground is provided by an intermediate flexible envelope containing a fluid. In the preferred embodiment, a ribbon 1 of explosive (e.g. pentaerythritoltetranitrate in a plastic binding agent) is sandwiched between films 2, 3 of polyethylene or polyethyleneterephthalate, film 3 being in the form of a lay-flat tube for containing water. Copper wires 4 strengthen the assembly longitudinally. In use the assembly is placed on or just below the ground surface and the charge is stemmed by an overlying layer of sand. Alternatively, film 2 may also be in the form of a water-filled tube for stemming the charge. In a modification the ribbon 1 (or a detonating fuze-cord), is not attached to tube 3 but is laid over it.
