Abstract

1,137,740. Radio transmitting apparatus. MULLARD Ltd. 9 Oct., 1967 [22 July, 1966], No. 32996/66. Heading H4L. In an arrangement for limiting the grid current in the power output valve 14 of a single sideband transmitter, biased to operate in class AB1 and supplied by a driver stage 10, when the drive to the valve 14 exceeds a predetermined level the valve 14 will draw grid current from a constant potential line 20 whereby the current through resistor 16 will bias the emitter base junction of transistor 18 so that the transistor conducts. The collector of the transistor is coupled via resistor 21 to the grid of a valve in a preceding amplifier to affect the bias whereby the signal passed by this amplifier to the driver stage is reduced and the valve 14 ceases to draw excessive grid current. A diode 22 may be connected across the resistor 16 to prevent reverse grid current from damaging the valve 14.
