Abstract
1,137,696. Cutting apparatus. EASTMAN KODAK CO. 8 March, 1967 [8 March, 1966], No. 10979/67. Heading B4B. High-speed cutting apparatus for a moving web includes a defect detector 10, Fig. 1, which may be e.g. a pin wheel 40, Fig. 2, which develops signals for each detected defect in the web. A predetermined length sheet is chopped from the moving web during each cycle by a chopper 14 driven at an appropriate rate, by a motor 25. When a defect is present, a defect signal, delayed by a delay circuit 22, changes the motor speed so that the defective sheet, e.g. 16<SP>1</SP> is cut to a length different from the predetermined length of a standard sheet 16. Sheets are fed by a high speed conveyer 17 and a slow speed conveyer 18 to a shoot 20. The motor control circuit 24 provides pulse information to a counter 26. When a desired number of sheets has been cut a signal is supplied by the counter to a motor control circuit 24, delaying the chopper by a still greater amount than if a defect had been detected, so that a longer " marker" " or " separator " sheet 16<SP>11</SP> is produced. In a second embodiment 1000 c/s. pulses from a generator 35 are fed to a length control circuit 36, a modulator 37 and power amplifier 38. If a sheet length is to be reduced the circuit 36 adds pulses to the pulse train during the chop - ping phase.
