Abstract

1,136,572. Remote control rear-view mirrors. SHELLER-GLOBE CORP. 16 Feb., 1966 [16 Feb., 1965], No. 6824/66. Heading B7J. [Also in Division F2] A remote control rear-view mirror assembly 10 for motor vehicles, comprises a support 16 which is screwed at 42 to a base 12 screwed at 36 to a vehicle door or other panel, and which has a ball 44 pivotally received by a socket member 54 secured at 52 to the mirror case 48 and by a socket member 60 formed in the case 48, and three helically sheathed woven wire cables 22, 24 and 26, which are engaged with the mirror case 48 and the socket member 54 respectively, and which extend through the door panel (not shown) through a block 28 to a triangular part 94 provided on the end of a remote pivoted control lever 92, the sheaths 22<SP>1</SP>, 24<SP>1</SP> and 26<SP>1</SP> surrounding the cables 22, 24 and 26 being received in a member 64 having a central stem 72 which is telescopically received in a bore 74 in the part 46 of the support 16 and which is surrounded by a compression spring 80 for yieldingly resisting elongation of the sheaths resulting from bending of the sheaths. The other ends of the sheaths 22<SP>1</SP>, 24<SP>1</SP> and 26<SP>1</SP> are received in bores 82 in the block 28 which is secured at 84 to an escutcheon plate. The lever 92 is pivoted at 88, 90 on the block 28 and is prevented from rotating by one of the sides of the part 94 engaging the escutcheon plate. A guide slot 96 may be provided in the part 94 to co-operate with a key 98 on the escutcheon plate.
