Abstract

1,136,430. Pulse modulation circuits; transistor pulse oscillators. P. R. MALLORY & CO. Inc. 20 Dec., 1966 [12 Jan., 1966], No. 56930/66. Headings H3T and H4L. In a circuit for varying the duty-cycle while maintaining constant the repetition rate of the output waveform of a multivibrator 22, 23, Fig. 1, the input signal is supplied to a differential amplifier 11 providing oppositely phased outputs which via diodes 13, 14 control the charging time of capacitors 20, 21 respectively. Alternatively the respective outputs of the amplifier may be supplied to the collectors of the multivibrator transistors, Fig. 2 (not shown). In a further arrangement, Fig. 3, the outputs of the differential amplifier 46 are supplied to the bases of transistors 50, 51 respectively. Assuming that transistor 43 of trigger pair 43, 44 is non-conducting the capacitor 64 will charge via transistor 50 to a level determined by the output of amplifier 46 until transistors 54, 57 conduct. At this time transistor 43 becomes conductive due to the slow linear discharge of capacitor 67 via transistor 69 rendering transis- 60, 62 non-conductive, and the charge voltage is then removed from capacitor 64 which discharges slowly via a transistor 65. Transistor 44 being non-conducting, the capacitor 67 is charged via transistor 51 and the cycle is repeated.
