Straightening; drawing. -In a combined wire or r o d straightening and cutting - off machine provided with a revolving straightening head A, a draw-bench is provided for drawing the wire through the straightener. The forward end of the work is gripped by tongs in the draw-bench saddle 22 the feed being released by the engagement with tappets 26 of the chain-grip lever 27. The wire is threaded through the straightening head by means of a gripping head 58, Fig. 3, which is moved by a rack and pinion along the bed 55, the grip being released by tappets 63; this head is reciprocated until sufficient length has been fed through to enable it to be gripped by the draw bench saddle. Shearing.-The shear ing-head 28, Fig. 1, is movable along the bed 29 by means of a threearmed lever 33 connected to a pedal 37 at one side and to a spring at the other; after the work has been severed, the head is moved to the left to enable a sufficient length to project to be gripped by the saddle 22. The head comprises a removable apertured cutter 64 co-operating with a blade 42 carried by a link 43 moved by a slot 48 from a hand-lever 50.
