An antimicrobial composition comprises a solution of dodecyl guanidine, hydrogen chloride, tetrahydrofurfuryl alcohol and, optionally water and/or a C 1 to C 6 alkanol. The composition finds application in the control of bacteria, fungi and algae in agronomic crops, cooling towers, oil well equipment and cutting oils, textile materials and cellulose products.
