Abstract
1,134,797. Working-up oils. DEUTSCHE GOLDUND SILBER-SCHEIDEANSTALT. 21 July, 1967 [22 July, 1966], No. 33725/67. Heading C5E. In a process for working-up high-grade crude and aged oils, the oil is emulsified with water and an emulsifier, the resulting emulsion is broken at its boiling temperature with a mixture of a hydrophobic silica and an alkaline-earth metal formate, and the regenerated oil is subsequently separated from the oil-containing residue by extraction and distillation of the extractant. In an example a used oil is emulsified with water and a polyglycol ether, the emulsion acidified with sulphuric acid, and a mixture of silica and calcium formate added; the mixture is filtered, the residue extracted with ether and the ether finally distilled off leaving a purified oil containing only the added surfactant.
