Abstract
1,134,753. Apparatus for measuring exhaled air. E. B. COHEN. 5 July, 1966 [5 July, 1965], No. 28424/65. Heading ASK. An apparatus for use in measuring simultaneously the volume of air forcibly exhaled in one second in deep breathing and also the total volume of air exhaled in one exhalation is illustrated with 'reference to a circuit drawing and comprises a transducer 10b on which a patient can exhale to generate a current, an amplifier 11 and rectifier 12 to amplify and rectify said current, a switching circuit including a transistor 13 and a relay 16, a total volume of exhaled air measuring circuit including transistors 26, 27 and a milliammeter 28, current to the base of the transistors being controlled by the switching circuit, and a measuring circuit to indicate the air exhaled in about one second, this circuit including transistors 23, 24, a relay 31 and a milliammeter 36, current being initially supplied to the base of the transistors, and a delay circuit formed of a transistor 30, condenser 32 and a relay 31 by which the last mentioned measuring circuit is interrupted after an interval of about half a second so that its milliammeter indicates the air exhaled in that period.
