Abstract

A vulcanizable composition comprises (a) a linear organopolysiloxane containing at least 2 Si-bonded vinyl radicals per molecule, the remaining radicals being monovalent hydrocarbon (h.c.) radicals free from aliphatic unsaturation, with or without inert substituents, (b) a siloxane of the formula wherein n is an integer and R<SP>11</SP> and R<SP>111</SP> are monovalent h.c. radicals, free from aliphatic unsaturation, with or without inert substituents, and (c) a Pt catalyst. Siloxane (b) is usually used in amount of from 0À5 to 20% by wt. of (a). Conventional fillers and pigments may also be added. In a typical Example (1) a mixture of a methylvinylsiloxane, a siloxanetreated fume silica, a tetrahydrogenodimethylsiloxane and chloroplatinic acid (in isopropanol) was milled and the resulting paste was disposed in flat moulds and heat cured to form elastic sheets. Uses.-For making tubes, pipes, joints, damping devices and casings.
