Abstract

1,133,710. Break-spinning method and apparatus. TSENTRALNY NAUCHNOISSLEDOVATELSKY INSTITUT IHHLOPCHATOBUMAZHNOI PROMYSHLENNOSTI. 15 March, 1966, No. 1124/66. Headings DID and D1F. In a method of break-spinning in which the fibres are separated, transported by an air-jet, and collected on a rotating take-up member and twisted into yarn, the fibres are subjected to the field from a corona forming electrode before they are collected. There is also provided apparatus comprising separating and spinning apparatus, wherein the former includes a nozzle with a corona-forming electrode and the latter a rotatable member spaced from the nozzle, the separating and spinning apparatus being connected in an electric circuit so that a potential difference can be established between the end of the nozzle and the rotatable member. In Fig. 1 fibrous material is fed beneath a plate 2 by a roller 1 to a separating roller 3 e.g. one covered with card-clothing. The fibres here separated are transported to a take-up member 11, which may be conical, rotating inside a chamber 13 with an outlet 14, the transportation being effected by a current of air generated by the rotation of the member and of the roller, assisted if desired by fan-blades 12 arranged below the member. As they leave the roller 3, the fibres pass through a nozzle 4 tapering towards its outlet so that the transporting aircurrent is accelerated. At the inlet and outlet of the nozzle are electrodes 7, 8 connected by a resistance coil or resistance layer 6: the upper electrode is connected to one pole of a high-voltage d.c. source, the disc 11 being connected to the other pole, the lower electrode 8 having a corona-forming electrode 9. As the fibres pass down the nozzle, they are acted upon by the air-current and the field inside the nozzle, the intensity of which increases towards the nozzle-outlet. The fibres thus undergo a parallelizing and straightening action which is completed when they reach the field arising from the d.c. corona. The spun yarn is drawn off by rollers 21, 22 and is wound up on a drum-driven package 26, 27 a break-detector 24 being provided. At the outlet from the disc 11 the yarn is gripped between the side of the outlet and a ball (20) Fig. 5, not shown. At the outlet 14 of the chamber, a regulating valve and a collector for un-spun fibres are provided.
