Abstract

1,132,907. Welding by fusion. A. IVALDI, and M. GENERALE. 19 May, 1966, No. 22406/66. Heading B3R. A metal shaft 1, e.g. a ship's propeller shaft, is clad with an austenitic stainless steel layer 2 by submerged arc welding using a flux containing manganese compounds to form a continuous overlapping seam. The end of the layer 2 is tapered. The flux includes 14À5-31À5% manganese, manganese oxide and manganese silicate and about one-third of this percentage of fluorides.
