A mixing machine for viscous materials comprises a turntable 246 on which a container C is rotated, and a mixing roller 292 rotated within container C in the opposite direction, the roller being swingable about an axis parallel to the rotational axis of the container and, in operation, is urged towards the container wall. The roller is removable from the container by either pivoting or axially sliding the top arm of the machine.
