Abstract

The protective sheath, 1, of a pin-type nuclear reactor fuel element is urged into engagement with the plug 2 by high energy shock waves generated by an electromagnetic device described in Specification 991,424, with reference to Figs. 2 and 3 therein. The sheath is crimped into the groove 4 and on to the conical and cylindrical surfaces 5 and 7. The neck 8 is sealed by the spot-weld 9.
