Abstract

An agricultural vehicle comprises a pick-up member 9, Fig. 1, and a feeding mechanism 13 for moving crop through a channel defined by a plate 6 and beams 27, a device for cutting the crop being provided which comprises knives 32 pivotally mounted for reciprocating movement. The vehicle is a trailer having a drawbar 5 for pulling by a tractor in the direction of an arrow A and it has a roller floor. The member 9 is pivotally mounted on a shaft 8 for upward or downward movement relative to the vehicle and comprises ground-wheels 11 and a rotatable drum provided with tines 12 which are movable between scraper beams. The feeding mechanism comprises pinions 16 meshing with wheels 17, a tubular support 19 extending between the wheels 17 and having secured thereto tines 20. Arms 21 extend upwardly from the support 19 and are pivotally connected to fixed supports 25 by rods 23. The knives 32 are carried by a pipe 30 which is pivotally mounted on the frame of the vehicle by arms 29, the knives extending through slots in the plate 6 and being pivotally connected to a pipe 35 which is pivotally supported by arms 36 and shafts 37 on the frame. One of the shafts 37 has an arm 39 connected to a rod 43 which is eccentrically connected to the pinion 15. Stationary triangular knives 45 are secured to the frame for co-operation with the knives 32. In a second embodiment, Fig. 3, the arm 39 is connected by the rod 43 to an eccentric 46 mounted on a shaft 47 directly driven by the power take-off shaft of the tractor. In operation, crop is moved by the tines 12 into the path of the tines 20, the tips of which move in the path shown. The crop is moved by the tines 20 through the feed channel and is urged against the reciprocating knives 32 and the stationary knives 45 before being pushed into the loading space of the vehicle.
