A drain filter comprises an envelope 1 of a liquid permeable material which is disposed about a pipe 6 provided with a plurality of perforations disposed along its length the envelope being filled with a loosely packed material 5 permitting filtered liquid to pass from within said envelope into the pipe. The envelope 1 may be made from a selected one of the group consisting of apoxy urethane, polyethylene, polypropylene synthetic rubbers, G.R.S., and butyl. The envelope may be filled with pearlite insulation, vermiculite or light weight concrete aggregate.
