Abstract
1,131,824. Feeding record tapes. LOEWE OPTA G.m.b.H. 13 Jan., 1967 [20 Jan., 1966], No. 2081/67. Heading G5R. A tape-guiding device in an apparatus for the magnetic recording and reproduction of high-frequency signals with a guide cylinder in which a magnet rotates, and over which a magnetic tape passes in a helical turn (the tape being secured by stopping means against axial displacement), is characterized in that the guide cylinder is shaped as a truncated cone and that as axial stopping means for the magnetic tape, a groove is helically incised in the periphery of the smaller end of the cylinder. As shown, the guide " cylinder " 17 has a slightly tapering surface to form a truncated cone but is in two parts 19, 20, restng on a frame 21. Between the parts rotates a disc 23 with magnetic head 24 inserted at its periphery. Tape 18 forming a helical wrap around the cylinder and moving from right to left meets the cylinder before the point a and leaves it at point e. The helical groove 25, provided to check the tendency of the tape to creep upwards, extends from point a to point e. The upper edge of the groove is radial to the cylinder, while the lower edge forms a small angle with the cylinder axis. To prevent the tape from slipping downwards when it is being inserted or when it is at rest, a " catcher surface " in the form of a helical rail 27 is provided. Preferably the groove depth is a few tenths of a millimetre, and the catcher surface is from 1 to 3 mm. from the lower edge of the running tape.
