Abstract

1,131,749. Counting yarn wound. DOW CHEMICAL CO. 22 Aug., 1966, No. 37562/66. Heading D1F. A multiple spindle winding machine in which the filaments I to 1d, Fig. 1, pass over a common snubber roll 3, has a toothed gear 5 rotating with the snubber roll 3, an electrical sensing member 6 giving a pulse as each tooth of the gear passes it, and a totalizing counter 7 giving an amplifier 8 one pulse for a plurality of pulses received from the sensing member 6, the amplifier 8 driving separate electrical counting devices 9, one for each spindle. Each counting device 9 controlls a switch to actuate a signal after the reception of a given number of pulses. An arm (14) Fig. 2 (not shown) on each winding panel (10) is held up by a filament 1 from the snubber roll passing round it on its way to the winding spindle (15) said arm (14), on failure of the filament to hold it up, moving to a setting causing a switch to stop the electrical counting device 9 for that particular panel. When this happens a bell or signal light may operate to attract the operator. When a counting device 9 causes a signal to be actuated, the operator causes the package for that particular panel to be doffed, initiates a fresh package, and re-set the counting device 9 to its count commencing setting.
