Abstract

1,131,440. Honing. BROOKES (OLDBURY) Ltd. 22 Sept., 1967 [27 Sept., 1966], No. 43093/66. Heading B3D. A honing tool comprises stones 10 movable radially in a carrier 11 by cams 13 mounted on oppositely-handed screw threaded portions of a control rod 15a, 15b; a motor is mounted at one end of the driving spindle 18, the motor casing 22 being rotatable with the driving spindle and the motor spindle 23 being connected to the control rod, actuation of the motor to rotate its spindle relative to its casing effecting relative axial movement of the cams 13. The motor is preferably an, hydraulic motor supplied through a coupling 24. The supply may be controlled by a pressure regulating valve so as to maintain the pressure applied to the stones at a substantially constant level. Alternatively a predetermined amount of feed may be imparted to the stones by passing a predetermined volume of fluid into the motor. The motor may be electric or operated by compressed air. The motor spindle may be connected to the control rod through gears.
