A tube drawing apparatus comprises a drawbench 2 having a die-plate 3, a turret-type back bench 4 and mandrel inserting mechanism 5, associated with a straightening machine 6 which receives drawn tubes from the bench and from which tubes are carried by a roller conveyer 7 to a tube transfer carriage 9. The transfer carriage 9 is loaded with tubes and then moved to a discharge position 9a where it is located between a tube support table 15 of the draw-bench and a discharging mechanism comprising a frame 10, a driving mechanism 11 and a slide 13 which can be raised and lowered and which includes pivoted levers 14 which can be moved between a retracted position in which they are clear of the carriage and an operative position in which they are under a bundle of tubes in the carriage. Operation.-A bundle of tubes is passed through the first drawing stage and each tube after drawing is fed individually to the straightening machine 6. The straightened tubes are transferred by the conveyer 7 to the carriage 9, which when full is moved to the discharge position 9a. At the discharge station the pivoted levers 14 are moved under the carriage and the slide 13 is then raised by the discharging mechanism to lift the tubes out of the carriage 9 to the level of the support table 15 of the drawbench. The carriage 9 then returns to the loading position adjacent the conveyer 7.
