1,131,243. Ribbon cables. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. 25 April, 1966 [11 May, 1965], No. 19846/65. Heading H1A. In a method of making a flat ribbon cable a number of parallel, coplanar conductors individually insulated with polyvinyl chloride are coated along their entire length with polyvinyl chloride paste and then the paste is gelled, for example by drying in an oven. The insulated conductors are aligned by passing them over and under a series of rubber-covered tensioning rollers after passing them in a horizontal plane through the paste applicator which may consist of a tank with a freely rotating roller, which coats the cores as they are drawn over it, and a wiper to control the amount applied. The coated cores may be passed first through a pre-heater to partially gell the P.V.C. paste and later through a drying oven to complete the gelling.
