Abstract
1,131,190. Temperature alarms. PYROTECTOR Inc. 20 Feb., 1967 [4 April, 1966], No. 8026/67. Heading G4N. Heat-sensing apparatus for detecting and responding to different predetermined temperatures in respective ones of a plurality of locations under surveillance comprises a plurality of temperature sensing devices such as thermistors 16, 16a, 16b which are responsive to a change in temperature, each thermistor being connected in series with a resistor 18, 18a or 18b through a common junction 20, 20a, 20b, and a diode 22, 22a or 22b connected between each of the common junctions and the alarm relay coil through an amplifier 12. A rise in temperature in any one of the thermistors reduces its resistance and increases the voltage across the corresponding resistor 18. When the increase is sufficient, the corresponding diode conducts and amplifier 12 operates alarm relay 10. Resistor 26 is provided so that the voltage required at the base of transistor T1 to actuate the alarm may be adjusted. The rise in temperature of any of the thermistors 16, 16a, 16b which is necessary to effect the predetermined charge in applied voltage is determined by the value of resistance 18, 18a or 18b associated with each thermistor. At least one of the resistances is adjustable so that the temperature at which each thermistor actuates the alarm may be different from that of each other thermistor.
