In the manufacture of superphosphates at least one surfactant of the cationic type is contacted with the superphosphate, e.g. calcium superphosphate. The rate of ripening and the physical properties of the superphosphate are thereby improved. The surfactant may have a cationic and a non-ionic part and may be a mixture of cationic and non-ionic surfactants. The surfactant may be oxyethylated C 8 -C 22 aliphatic amines or their salts.
