1,130,271. Pyrocarbonic acid esters. SHIONOGI & CO. Ltd. 18 Jan., 1967 [24 Jan., 1966; 24 Oct., 1966], No. 2588/67. Heading C2C. Pyrocarbonic acid diesters of formula O(COOR<SP>1</SP>) 2 , in which each R<SP>1</SP> represents an alkyl or an aralkyl group, are prepared by reacting sulphonyl chlorides of the formula in which R represents a hydrogen atom or a halogen atom which, when there is only one sulphonyl chloride group, is in the position o- or pto the sulphonyl chloride group, with about two equivalents of monosodium (or monopotassium) carbonate esters of formula MeOCOOR<SP>1</SP>, in which Me is a sodium or potassium ion, for each chlorosulphonyl group in the starting sulphonyl chloride.
