[Also in Division D1] In a detergent dispenser 12 for a washing machine having at least two separate compartments 40, 41 for particulate detergent, a separate nozzle 46 can direct a substantially horizontal jet of water through a hole 45 in the end wall of each compartment to dispense the detergent to a common outlet at the other end, the space between the nozzles and walls being drained. The dispenser 12 is mounted in the washing machine lid 10 and consists of a moulded plastic dish having concave bottom portions 16, (17), Fig. 3 (not shown), and a vertical partition 18 divided at the inlet end into curved partitions 21, 22 with holes 45 and having an off-set part 19, at the outlet end. A drain spigot 26 between partitions 21, 22 and the end wall is connected by hose 33 to an opening 32 in the tubular outlet 27 beneath partition 19. A moulded cap 34 has ridges 35, 36 located round the edges of partitions 21, 22 and carries deflectors 42 depending into compartments 40, 41 so as to deflect water controlled by solenoid valves and directed by nozzles 46 through holes 45. Outlet 27 fits into a rubber diaphragm 56 on the inlet 55 of a washing machine which is provided with an overflow vent 60 having a deflector 62 to prevent splashing, subsidiary outlets 65 being provided in case vent 60 may be blocked. The compartments are loaded through opening. 66 in cap 34 normally closed by a metal lid 67 hinged with a moulded plastic detergent baffle 75 which prevents the detergent from being tipped into the outlet space but may be raised for cleaning.
