Abstract
1,129,761. Theft alarms. A. J. MINASY. 2 March, 1966 [5 March, 1965], No. 9090/66. Heading G4N. [Also in Divisions H3 and H4] A system for detecting the passage of an object past a check point comprises a transmitter radiating energy at a first frequency, a receiver receiving energy at a second frequency, and a transponder attached to the object to be detected which receives energy at the first frequency and radiates energy at the second frequency to actuate an alarm associated with the receiver. The transponder is an encapsulated transistor unit which may take the form of a name tag, Fig. 5 (not shown), of a garment. In one form, Fig. 2, energy received by a circuit 34 tuned to the transmitter frequency, is rectified and used to power a transistor oscillator 35 tuned to the receiver frequency. Alternatively, Fig. 7 (not shown), the oscillator may have its own power supply, the rectified energy from the transmitter being used to forward bias the transistor. The coils in the tuned circuits may act as aerials, or separate aerials may be provided. Objects likely to be loaned, e.g. library books, may be provided with ferrite rods which may be magnetized to inhibit actuation of the transponder for legitimate loans.
