Abstract
1,129,717. Coating powders with organochlorosilanes. WACKER-CHEMIE G.m.b.H. 27 Sept., 1966 [1 Oct., 1965], No. 43150/66. Heading C1A. [Also in Division B2] Lipophilic surfaces are produced on particles by mixing with at least one organochlorosilane in admixture with a halogen or organic compound of tin, titanium and/or zirconium. The particles have a predominant portion not exceeding 5 mm. The organochlorosilane may have the general formula R n H m SiCl 4-n-m where R is a C 1-5 aliphatic radical, n is 1, 2 or 3, m is 0, 1 or 2 and n + m = 1, 2 or 3, and the compound may be methyl chlorosilane, methyl trichlorosilane or a mixture of the latter and dimethyldichlorosilane, or certain products of the reaction between silicon and methyl chloride. In addition to the organochlorosilane, there may be used a chlorosilane H x SiCl 4-x where x is 0, 1 or 2. The halogen compound of tin, titanium and/or zirconium is preferably the chloride, and the organic compound of these metals is preferably an ester of an oxyacid derived therefrom or a carboxylic acid salt thereof, e.g. titanium n-butylate, dibutyl tin dilaurate, di-2-ethyl hexyl tin maleate, and di-n-butyl tin adipate. The coating mixture may be in liquid, vapour or gaseous form and the treatment may be carried out at 35‹ to 200‹ C. in the presence of an inert solvent, e.g. an aliphatic or aromatic ketone, a halogenated hydrocarbon or an ether, the solvent being liquid at 18‹ C. under atmospheric pressure. Specified particles are inorganic oxides, e.g. SiO 2 , TiO 2 , Al 2 O 3 , carbonates, e.g. dolomite, CaCO 3 , K 2 CO 3 , Na 2 CO 3 , NaHCO 3 , sulphates, e.g. anhydrite, BaSO 4 , sulphides, e.g. Sb 2 S 5 , carbides, e.g. calcium carbide, chlorides, e.g. NaCl, nitrates, e.g. NH 4 NO 3 , nitrites, phosphates, ground calcareous sandstones, clays, lava, perlites, vermiculites and asbestos.
