Abstract
1,129,385. Triethanolamine salts. ATLANTIC RICHFIELD CO. 17 Nov., 1966 [4 March, 1966], No. 51652/66. Heading C2C. [Also in Division C5] The triethanolamine salt of an alkylbenzene sulphonic acid having a linear alkyl radical containing from 8 to 16 carbons may be prepared by contacting benzene with a monohalogenated normal paraffin, normal alcohol or a normal mono-olefin containing from 8 to 16 carbons.in the presence of a suitable alkylation catalyst, e.g. aluminium. chloride, sulphonating the resultant straight chain alkylated benzene and reacting the alkylbenzene sulphonic acid with triethanolamine in the presence of water to raise the pH of the mixture to a value ranging from. 2 to 6. measured at a total solids concentration of 10%. by weight in the mixture.
