112,936. Jones, W. Hastings-, (representatlve of Ryder Artificial Limb Corporation). Jan. 2, 1917, [Convention date]. Void [Published under Sect. 91 of the Act]. Limbs, artificial.- A leg is fitted with elastic means located within the leg to serve as an extensor muscle, and with a wooden foot constructed with the minimum cutting away of material for ankle and toe joints. The upper and lower parts 1, 2 of the leg are jointed at 3. The elastic band, cord, or spring 6 is hooked to a pin 4 on the upper part 1, and its lower end provided with a leather or like strip 7. The ends of the strip are passed around a pin 9 and through the walls of the leg, pulled on to tension the band 6, and afterwards knotted on the outside of the leg. In the case of a spiral spring being used, it is tensioned by a screwed hook and fly-nut. A back check is provided as shown. The foot 13 has secured to it one member 16 of the ankle joint, the other member 11 being secured to the leg. Yielding stop members 18, 20 limit the play of the ankle joint, and an elastic element 21 affords play to the toe section of the foot, being covered above and below by leather. Felt or rubber padding 25, 26 is provided for securing a soft tread.
