Abstract

1,129,101. Antimicrabial treatment of seeds. METALSALTS CORP. 4 Jan., 1966 [4 Jan., 1965], No. 363/66. Heading A2Q. [Also in Division A5] Seeds are protected against microbial attack by treating them with a composition containing a compound, namely a substituted cycloalkanone, of the general formula:- or a salt of such a compound, wherein R 1 to R 4 are each hydrogen, or a C 1 -C 18 alkyl group, or a C 1 -C 9 aralkyl or cycloalkyl group, X 1 to X 4 are each hydrogen, a C 1 -C 18 alkyl group, a C 1 -C 8 hydroxyalkyl group, or a C 1 -C 9 cycloalkyl, aryl or aralkyl group, or at least one of the pairs X 1 , X 2 and X 3 , X 4 may be part of a saturated heterocyclic ring which contains the indicated N, and which may contain together with carbon a further hetero atom selected from oxygen, nitrogen and sulphur, the other pair either being saturated heterocyclic ring in accordance with the same definition or being in accordance with the definition already given for X 1 to X 4 ; n is an integer from 1 to 6 inclusive; Z is hydrogen, a halogen atom, a nitro group, or an alkyl, alkoxy, hydroxyl, phenyl or alkyl phenyl group. A preferred compound is 2, 6-bis-(dimethylaminomethyl) cyclohexanone. The composition may also contain an organic solvent and/or water, and may then be sprayed on to the seeds. Alternatively, the composition may contain a powdered inert solid carrier, and may then be dusted on to the seeds.
