Abstract

1,128,907. Push-button tuning. PLESSEY (UK) Ltd. 6 Jan., 1966 [18 Dec., 1964], No. 51558/64. Heading H3Q. [Also in Division H1N] A receiver tuning arrangement covering different frequency bands has separate tuners mechanically coupled together so that the pushbuttons operate both simultaneously, the buttons also actuating switches to change the operating condition of the receiver where necessary, e.g. frequency-range and number of scanning lines in a television receiver. In Fig. 1 a V.H.F. tuner 1 of the spring-urged inductance core type as in Specification 989,781 and a U.H.F. tuner 2 of the rotary capacitor type are coupled together by a mechanical linkage 10 which is attached to a crank 9 on the rotary capacitor shaft and operates a hinged plate 11 to move the plunger 3 axially. The tuning push-buttons 4-7 are located in the U.H.F. unit and when any one is pressed it operates both tuning controls simultaneously. Button 4 selects V.H.F. Band I, buttons 5 and 6 select two different U.H.F. channels and button 7 selects V.H.F. Band III. The V.H.F. tuner includes a slider switch for changing from Band I to Band III and another slider switch for changing from V.H.F. to U.H.F., and these are operated by the appropriate buttons 5-7 by means of a pivoted plate on a cross-shaft (12 in Fig. 2, not shown). At the same time buttons 5 and 6 move a plate (14) which engages a spring- urged slider (15) to operate the standards conversion switch (16). Fine tuning is effected by rotating the buttons 4-7 as in Specification 1,006,215. An additional on/off button 17 is interlocked with buttons 4-7 for latching and release. The rear end of this button carries a cam 20 with a conical portion 24 which engages a plate 21 to operate a pair of microswitches 22, 23 to complete the heater circuits. When the button is pushed in it operates an arm 19 to switch off the H.T. by a switch 18. If one of the buttons 4-7 is now pressed, the button 17 will be released and the H.T. will be switched on; since the heaters are already on the set will operate immediately, the heater circuit being maintained by switch 18. To switch off the set the button 17 is turned through 180 degrees and then pressed in; the plate 21 no longer operates the microswitches and the heaters are turned off.
