In a coin-freed vending machine, insertion of a coin of one denomination into a corresponding one of a plurality of coin-receiving members operates a switch to move a drive means to record the number of insertions into that member, and electric circuit means effecting carry over from the drive means of one denomination to the drive means of the next, and controlling ticket issuing apparatus. In Fig. 3, insertion of a penny energizes a corresponding solenoid 11, to advance wheel 15 one tooth. A disc 18 secured to the wheel has notches 25, at six-tooth intervals, so that when six pennies have been inserted, a micro switch operator 28 effects advancement of a sixpence wheel by one tooth. Equally, advancement of the sixpence wheel by five teeth (by insertion of sixpences or carry over from pennies) result in advancement of a 2/6d. wheel by one tooth. Discs 19 have similarly spaced recesses 26, and each is angularly preset relative to its wheel 15 to determine the price of a ticket, which is issued when each disc 19 is in a position to operate an associated microswitch by any one of its notches 26. Reset solenoids 12 are simultaneously operated, and inserted coins are released from a store where they have been held so that coin return can be obtained. Embodiment (Fig. 4, not shown).-Each coin switch is in series with a solenoid which drives a rotary switch associated with a bank of contacts with a wiper which is moved one increment on each insertion of an associated coin. Each bank includes a setting switch and zeroizing mechanism and the banks associated with the lower values each have a carry-over device.
