Apparatus for recording nuclear spectra is arranged to print out one measurement whilst the next measurement is being made. An analogue to digital converter ADC, Fig. 3 produces a code corresponding to the height of a pulse UR from a particle detector, which code is passed to an address register IA. Register IA selects a corresponding channel in a ferrite core memory sub-group FCM<SP>1</SP> in which the spectrum is being built up, and the content of this channel is read into a content register CA. +1 is added to this content which is then written back into the memory sub-group FCM<SP>1</SP>. The result of a previous measurement, stored in the memory sub-group FCM<SP>11</SP> is read out by the content register CA channel by channel and transferred to a second content register CB which is used to control the acutal read out device AU (e.g. a tape or card punch, series or parallel printer or magnetic tape recorder). Since the content register has to perform a function both in classifying pulses and reading out the result of a previous measurement, a control circuit CC is provided to ensure that it is not asked to do both at once. The control circuit Fig. 2, receives pulses e at regular intervals which are passed along m<SP>11</SP> to control the reading out. When there is a pulse to be analysed, a pulse a is transmitted to m<SP>1</SP> and closes gates A 1 and A 3 to prevent transmission of any e pulses until the classification of the pulse is complete.
