A pharmaceutical composition for the lowering of azotemia comprises a sterile injectable aqueous solution of an extract of hespedeza capitata, said extract having been obtained by the process described and claimed in Specification 1,122,650. Dosage units may comprise sealed phials containing the solution or the dry sterile extract, the latter being dissolved prior to use in sterile physiological saline.
