Abstract

1,128,267. Theft alarms. CONTINENTAL INSTRUMENTS CORP. 10 Nov., 1966, No. 50511/66. Heading-G4N. An alarm device 20 for preventing unauthorized removal of a plug 22. of an electrical apparatus from a socket 10 which has electrically connected neutral and earthed sockets 14, 16, comprises a loop which is closed when,plug 22 is inserted in socket 10 by the interconnection 18 between sockets 14, 16, current being provided for the loop by the A.C. power which supplies socket 10 or by a battery 56 which has a manually operated switch 58, an alarm annunciator 60, e.g. a bell, being automatically actuated in response to the opening of the loop by removal of the plug. Mains current is rectified by diode 46 to charge a condenser 42 to a voltage higher than that of battery 56 so that the condenser is charged by the battery only when the mains fail or when the plug is removed. -Whenthe plug is in the socket the charge on condenser 42 flows through resistance 34, diode 48, L3, connection 18, L2 and back to condenser 42. If the plug is removed from the socket the charge from condenser 42 flows through resistor 34 and charges condenser 44 so that current will flow through a zener diode 52 to trigger thyristor 54 and activate alarm 60.
