Abstract
1,128,229. Distillation apparatus; treating gases with liquids. LINDE A.G. 20 Oct., 1966 [22 Oct., 1965], No. 46953/66. Headings BIB and B1R. A rectification column of the plate-type is designed to operate in a horizontal position, i.e. so that its longitudinal axis is disposed horizontally, and the height of the column does not exceed its maximum width or breadth, and the column provrided with horizontal plates 1 of rectangular (or square) shape, mounted one above the other. The plates are provided with weirs 5 in a conventional manner. The vertical distance between the plates is preferably 100 mm. Instead of a cylindrical column as shown, the casing of the column may have the form of a rectangular parallepiped, e.g. brick-shaped, or a cube. A column is specified which has a length of 5.5 metres, a square cross-section of 3.6 x 3.6 metres, and contains 25 plates. Some of the plates may serve to support the flat side walls of the casing. The base of the column may be connected to a plate-type heat exchanger.
