Abstract
1,127,849. Oxidizing salt solutions. FARBWERKE HOECHST A.G. 27 Jan., 1966 [27 Jan.,.1965], No. 3709/66. Heading G1A. Solutions of salts of metals that occur in different valency states are oxidized using O 2 or gas mixtures containing. O 2 at a temperature between room temperature and the b.p. of the solution by adding to the solution a surfaceactive, non-foaming substance of the formula in which R<SP>1</SP> and R<SP>11</SP>' are identical or different C 3 to C 10 aliphatic, straight or branched chain monovalent radicals, or R<SP>11</SP> is H; R 1 and R 2 are identical or different C 2 to C 6 aliphatic, straight -or branched chain divalent radicals, and the number of carbon atoms in R 2 # the number of carbon atoms in R 1 ; x is an integer from 0.to 8; y is an integer from 2 to 35, x and y being such that the atomic ratio of C to O is from. 2À5 : 1 to 10 : 1 and the m.w. is from 100 to. 2800. The substance may be used in the amount 0À001 to 10 g./1. of solution and may be an alkylene-oxides condensation, product, fatty alcohol-alkylene oxide condensation product or butyl or dibutyl diglycol. The gaseous O 2 - containing oxidant is preferably introduced in finely divided form. The oxidation of FeCl 2 , FeSO 4 and Cu 2 C1 2 solutions, which may also contain HC1, HgCl 2 , PdCl 2 and CoCl 2 , is exemplified.
