A forming die unit for setting up a container 29 having walls with locking flaps 81 engaging slits in other walls, comprises a forming die 26 having an aperture 65, folding edges 63, 64 along two opposing sides of the aperture, lug plates 45 and hook plates 52 along two of the other opposing sides of the aperture and forming folding edges, lugs 48, 49 on the lug plates extending downwardly therefrom and supporting a container clearance unit, immovable hooks 60 on the hook plates and extending downwardly for inserting the locking flaps into the slits, arcuate shaped immovable guides 58, forming integral parts of the hook plates and extending inwardly from the sides thereof and merging with said hooks to guide the locking flaps into contact with said hooks, and a plunger 25. The plunger has protuberances 32 which flex the end walls of the container to open up the slits to receive the locking flaps. The container clearing unit comprises a pair of roller combinations 68, (69), 70, the roller 70 being spring loaded. Further adjustable guide members (110), Figs. 17-19 (not shown), may be provided to ensure proper bending of the locking lips 82.
