Abstract

In a switch-point for a multi-gauge track, in which the broad gauge wheels run on rails 1, 2 and the narrow gauge wheels are retained on the same rails by guide rails 3, 4, the point blades 5, 8 co-operate with guide rails 7, 10 which move in directions opposite to those of the blades. For straight running the blade 5 moves away from rail 1 and the guide rail 7 moves towards guide rail 3 such that the wheel is restrained to outer rail 1 by guide rail 3, guide rail 7 and the back of point blade 5; the guide rail 10 moving away from rail 2 to allow the opposite wheel to run on rail 2 and point blade 8. By this means the narrow gauge track is displaced from a central to a left-hand lateral position to allow the use of a single conventional frog. Corresponding reversed conditions apply for turn-out. Further guide rails may be provided to return the narrow gauge to central running after the switch-point.
