Abstract
1,124,795. Trusses. A. S. WOOD. 22 July, 1966 [25 May, 1965], No. 22238/65. Heading A5R. A surgical truss comprises at least one hernia pad 1 attached to a resilient rod 6 bent in a generally C-shaped form for holding the pad in contact with a hernia, the pad comprising an annular member 2 enclosing a ventilating boss 3 which protrudes beyond the plane of the annular member on the side which is to be held in contact with the hernia. The pad 1 comprises a rubber housing (4) containing the annular member 2 through which projects the boss 3. The housing (4) is supported by one end of a resilient C-shaped rod 6 which may be covered by a plastics sheath and which carries at its other end a pad (9) in a housing 7 for bearing against the spine in use. Alternatively, the rod may partially encircle the body and carry a pad 1 at each end, body-contacting pads being arranged along the length of the rod. The boss may be removable or may be bonded to the annular member. The boss and annular member are covered by a resilient pad (not shown) of air permeable plastics material and the whole may be enclosed in a cover. The boss is made of air permeable or perforated rubber, polyethylene or ceramic, the annular member of ferromagnetic metal which may be magnetised, plastics material with a superimposed magnetic ring or ceramic. The pad 9 is made of sponge or foamed rubber or foamed polyvinylchloride or polyurethane. The materials used for the pads are air permeable or have ventilation holes.
