1,122,851. Loud-speakers. MINISTER OF TECHNOLOGY. 3 Aug., 1965 [26 May, 1964], No. 21700/64. Heading H4J. A column type loud-speaker comprises a plurality of loud-speaker units arranged in a linear array without any box or baffle arrangement around it. In one method of support (Fig. 1, not shown) the magnets of a plurality of elliptic loud-speakers are clamped between two wooden strips. Such an array may be surrounded by an expanded metal grill which has substantially no effect on the passage of sound waves (Figs. 2 and 3, not shown). An equalizer connected between the power amplifier and the array, and a C.R. base-lift circuit inserted in the amplifier, may be provided (Fig. 6, not shown). In order to obtain an effective reduction of column length with rising frequency and a reduction of the side lobes in the vertical polar diagram the loud-speakers are shunted by resistors or capacitors having decreasing or increasing values respectively from the centre of the array towards its ends (Fig. 9, not shown).
