Abstract

1,122,321. Associative stores; reading. TELEFUNKEN PATENTVERWERTUNGS G.m.b.H. 21 June, 1966 [21 June, 1965], No. 27591/66. Heading G4C. A method of reading the result of an interrogation contained in a detector matrix 6 associated with an associative store (not shown), using an indicator arrangement which contains one indicator element (e.g. flip-flop) for each column and row of the matrix is characterized in that, in a first simultaneous reading operation involving all the detector elements of the matrix, only the indicator elements 8 associated with the columns of the matrix are operational (through AND gates 12, Fig. 4, not shown), and that, subsequently, the columns of the matrix containing the marked detector elements are interrogated individually and successively by logic switching network 9 (comprising AND gates, Fig. 4, not shown) in a second reading operation during which each of the indicator elements 7 (Figs. 5 and 6, not shown) associated with the rows of the matrix are operational. The detector matrix preferably comprises elements which may be non-destructively read or which have at least three stable states. Alternatively, each element may comprise paired bi-stable devices (e.g. ferrite toroidal cores) or even single bi-stable devices if the first reading is effected simultaneously with the associative interrogation itself. Logic network 10 (Figs. 5 and 6, not shown) comprising AND gates connect the marked indicator elements of array 7 one at a time in sequence to decoding device 11.
