Abstract

[Also in Division B6] A setting device for use in setting the stripping tools of a stripping chase for the stripper mechanism of a cutting press is characterized in that the device is adapted to be set to simulate exactly the conditions at the press stripping station whereby a stripping chase when located and clamped in position in the device can be provided with stripping tools located at exact positions without measurements being taken. The device comprises a framework 6 movable towards and away from a table 3 by means of a handle 10 which rotates a screw 11 which in turn pivots bell crank levers 12, the framework 6 having stops (8), Fig. 3 (not shown), and clamps 9 for locating and clamping a chase 7 therein. The table 3, which is mounted on a framework 1, has at each side of the front thereof a slotted member 4 into one end of which one end of a gripper bar 5 identical to the press gripper bar is located. The gripper bar 5 is adjusted and looked by means of screws 14, 15, and 16. To set the device, the chase 7 is located in the press P, Fig. 4, a sheet of material 17 is attached to a gripper bar and the latter is located at the stripping station against stops 18. The chase is moved vertically to cause pegs thereon to perforate the sheet 17 at positions 19. The sheet is also perforated with a row of holes (20), Fig. 5 (not shown), by means of spikes on the gripper bar (5a), Fig. 6 (not shown). The chase 7 and test sheet 17 are now transferred to the setting device and with the chase locked in the framework 6, the sheet 17 is located on the spikes of a gripper bar 5 and with the bar 5 held in the slotted members 4, the chase is lowered towards the sheet 17 on the table 3 and the position of the bar 5 is adjusted until the pegs on the chase can be caused to enter the perforation 19 in the sheet 17. When this is achieved, the gripper bar is locked and the stripping set in the chase.
