Abstract

A car park has at the entrance a device for issuing an " admission counter", the size of which corresponds to the time of entry; a device for receiving the admission counter prior to exit, indicating the parking fee corresponding to the time difference, receiving payment of the fee and issuing an " exit counter", the size of which corresponds to the time of operation of this device; and a device for receiving the exit counter to release an exit barrier provided the exit counter corresponds to the time of exit. For example there may be eighteen sizes of counters, of diameters differing in steps of 1 mm., one size for each successive period of an hour. The admission counters are contained in storage tubes such as 1-5 and are ejected by ejectors 11-15 selected in turn by a timer 16, and operated by a car 17 closing contacts 18. The driver picks up the counter from a dish 19, closing a switch to lift a barrier 20. The admission counter is later inserted in the second device (Fig. 2, not shown) which sorts it into an appropriate storage tube (21-25) and generates a signal (from 27, 28) representing the size of the counter (i.e. the admission time), which with a signal from a timer (29) actuates a dial (30) to show how much is to be paid for the parking time. On insertion of the correct amount (at 38) the appropriate ejector (31-35), selected by the timer (29) ejects an exit counter from a counter storage tube, which may be one of the tubes the admission counters are received in, or one of a different set. The driver may then insert the exit counter in the third device (Fig. 3, not shown), which again sorts the counter into the appropriate storage tube, and generates a signal which is checked against that from a timer to open a barrier (48) or sound an alarm (56). The operation of the timer lags the operation of the timer of the second device, by an amount which may be increased for peak periods, to allow for the time lag between operating the two devices.
