Abstract
112,149. Rushen, P. C., (Quarzlampen Ges.). Dec. C, 1916. Radiations, sterilizing by.-In sterilizing water, particularly water rendered dull by humic suhstances &c., by the action of chemically active rays such as ultraviolet rays from a mercuryquartz lamp, a small quantity of a dye, colour, or fluorescent substance is added. Suitable substances are eosine, rhodamines, fuchsine, methylent blue, Nile blue, phenazine, toluylene red, phenosafranine, fluoresceine, tetrachlor-, tetrabrom-, tetraiodo-, tetrachlortetrabrom-, or tetrachlortetraiodo-fluoresceine, chloride of acridine, chrysophanic acid, phenylquinaldine, quinine, hydrastinine, chlorophyl, alcoholic extracts of green vegetables, and uranium or iron salts.
