Abstract

1,121,220. Pulleys. OTIS ELEVATOR CO. 10 Oct., 1966, No. 45246/66. Heading F2Q. A multi-groove pulley for an electric traction type lift comprises in each annular groove 60 a ring 21 of elastomeric material, e.g. polyurethane, including a circumferential groove 23 adapted to receive a cable and formed with spaced apart ribs 35 to promote adhesion. The grooves 60 have sides (17) convergent radially inwardly and lips (19) to retain the rings 21 (Fig. 5, not shown). The pulley may be solid (Fig. 4, not shown), or may comprise separate sections 56 supported on a sleeve 51, mounted by bearings 55 on a shaft 50, and clamped between endplates 52 bolted to the sleeve 51. One section 56 is secured to an end plate 52, and P.T.F.E. rings 59 between the rims 57 and a P.T.F.E. bearing 58 allow the sections to rotate relative to one another under load to accommodate the effects of differences in the diameters of the cable grooves which otherwise would lead to creep or slip of the cable. 1,121,222. Pipe connections. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. 20 June, 1966 [19 Aug., 1965], No. 27375/66. Heading F2G. In an aircraft gas turbine engine including a compressor having hollow elements at the intake end thereof which are subject to icing and a conduit for conducting pressurized, heated antiicing air to the elements from the after portion of the compressor, there is interposed on the conduit 28 an expansion joint comprising telescoped tubular members 34, 38, the inner member having spaced, circumferential ribs 44, 46 defining therebetween a retainer groove 48, the rib 46 being formed with a groove for a pair of split sealing rings 52 which engage the bore of the member 34. The split ends of the rings 52 are angularly offset to minimize leakage therepast, and a retainer member 58 limits relative axial movement of the two members.
