[Also in Division C2] 2-Vinyl-1,4-dioxans of the general formula in which R 1 and R 2 which may be the same or different are individually hydrogen, halogen, alkyl, hydroxyalkyl, halogenoalkyl, cycloalkyl, aryl or aralkyl, or R 1 and R 2 together with the CH groups to which they are attached form a homocyclic or heterocyclic ring system, may be polymerized or co-polymerized with other monomers and with unsaturated polyesters and may be used for modifying the properties, e.g. increasing the moisture uptake, of polymers such as polyacrylonitrile and polystyrene.
