Abstract

1,120,912. Typewriters. BATTELLE DEVELOPMENT CORP. 15 July, 1966, No. 31972/66. Heading B6F. An attachment for a typewriter which detects the irregularities in time between depression of successive keys, comprises a line-feeding device which operates continuously during a letter-spacing movement of the typewriter platen or type-carriage. The attachment comprises two end-plates 20 spaced apart by rods 21, 22 one carrying an electric motor 25 which drives a shaft 26 having a paper feed roller 27. The rod 21 also supports a pair of upwardly and rearwardly curved arms 28 carrying a gripping roller 31 which urges the paper P into engagement with the feed roller 27. The roller 31 may be moved away from roller 27, against the bias of a spring 33 by a bail 35 operated by a hand lever 34. The attachment is held in place by clips 37. Since the paper is being fed continuously in line-spacing direction and moves in letterspacing direction according to the operations of the keys by the typist the resultant typed matter will be on an inclined line. The change in the angle of the line denotes the irregularities in typing. Fig. 6 (not shown) illustrates that the invention may be applied to typewriters having a movable type-carriage.
