Abstract

1,120,778. Binding machines; endless conveyers. MID-STATES STEEL & WIRE CO. 10 July, 1967, No. 31723/67. Headings B8A and B8C. The supply and discharge belt conveyers of a tying machine are each carried on frames which pivot from a horizontal to a vertical disposition to increase accessibility to the tying mechanism. In the form shown, the supply belts 12, Fig. 1, carried on a frame 17 are driven slower than the discharge belts 19, 20, 21 carried on framework 24. Operation of the tying mechanism and the conveyers is effected through photo-cell devices which can be switched to apply either one or two ties. There may be two such devices, one downstream of the other, to effect the placement of two ties on a bundle. The photo-cells may effect operation of the conveyers and tying machine through an adjustable time delay to alter the position of the tie on the article. The articles may be compressed by a beam 34 before tying. The tie is guided into position by a frame 11.
