[Also in Division B4] A milling cutter holder assembly &c., comprises cylindrical, or slightly tapered, and plane locating surfaces 25, 3 on an arbor 1, and corresponding surfaces on a holder 2 attached thereto by a cap-nut 10 guided thereon, the cap nut having a flange 28 engaging over a collar 27 of the holder and being fixed with an only partly overlapping " claw " connection. Each member has three claws 17, 18. The arbor and holder do not engage on any conical surfaces but on cylindrical surfaces 25, 26. They are drivingly connected by pins 7 which can be removed from the holder 2, if desired, by fluid-pressure applied to bores 38. In a modification, the cylindrical surfaces and driving pins are replaced by a connection of square cross-section. The cap nut may not be threaded to the arbor and the claws may have tapered engaging surfaces or threaded engagement. The pitch of the latter thread may be different from and of opposite hand from that of the cap nut. The nut can be locked by a set-screw 14. A screw 67 limits rotational movement of the nut to indicate a disengaged position. An end-mill is secured to the holder by a screw 33. If the end-mill or tool is removed for resharpening it is re-set in the same cutting position by selection of a distance ring 19. In a modification, the ring is replaced by an adjustable collar 47, Fig. 3, and the fixed screw 33 is replaced by a headed sleeve 39. In a further modification, the position of the tool is adjusted by a screw 59, Fig. 7, and the tool is held in a collet 53 clamped by a nut 54. The screw 59 can be adjusted by a screw-driver 80 having gauging means 84, 83 and a casing 76 having teeth 78 to engage a look-nut 60. To prevent upsetting of a gauged position during tightening of the look-nuts, means may be provided to engage the holder 2.
